We worked with Molly on designing our dream kitchen/bath remodel for 18 months. We made all of the design decisions; we ordered appliances (which are now in our garage); we purchased countertops. Our construction was to start in 5 months. Out of nowhere, Molly sent us an email stating that they could no longer do our construction. She has never talked to us about why--just a shocking email. We can only assume she overcommitted and we paid the price. This has left us scrambling to find a more reputable firm to do our construction including trying to transfer all of the design decisions and knowledge from over 18 months.
A Kitchen That Works was under contract to bill us each month. Instead, they waited 4.5 months and then expected thousands of dollars immediately despite us needing to sell investments. Molly insisted we should have paid her at our "in person" meeting but that meeting was between Molly and subcontractors when I was not home and she made no mention of payment.
Additionally, when we bought our countertops Molly charged us $29,000 but we later found that she only paid the fabricator $17,000 and told us nothing about the difference. She returned the funds only when the fabricator told us how much of our money she was holding. ZERO financial transparency.
A Kitchen That Works has a strong online presence and lots of glowing reviews from years ago. Don't be deceived.
After hearing a presentation by Molly McCabe (AKTW), a few years ago, when it came to considering our own remodel there was no question who to hire. Known for coming in on or below budget Molly met that criteria. It's clear she knows her stuff and for those who think it's easy handling not only different tradespeople, but personalities, particularly being in a 'man's world', she ran a tight but fair ship and all the workers I talked to privately expressed their admiration for her work.
As I sit here and look at all the details in one part of our now open concept downstairs, it's a package that all works: placement of windows, lighting, etc as well as choices of trim. doors, etc. And though ultimately all the choices were ours, she nudged us in areas to find the most practical and aesthetically pleasing elements. I can honestly say, each morning when we enter this space, it's a beautiful sanctuary.
