Stayed this time with the teens: still got a luxurious queen room to myself, but they were out of my hair, across the hall in a comfy bunk room. They loved the independence, and I loved the privacy. Previous visits were noisy with the fabulous bar jumpin' late at night, but this midweek visit was quiet and peaceful. Saw that McMenamins was hiring. Perhaps that's why restaurant service was a bit slower than usual. I love staying in this old hotel. It connects me to history, encourages me to laugh at human foibles, and makes me feel like I'm part of the story.

The restaurant has great food and service! :) The pork carnitas tacos were tasty, and the salad with chicken was large and tasted good!
The atmosphere was decent, but the music was too loud.

Came in during the weekend of the Seattle-to-Portland bike ride, a known busy weekend as discussed by staff. The bar ranged from 1/4 to 2/3 full. Only one bartender for the entire bar area, a few other staff. Tots ($12 for a medium plate) took 15 minutes. It took 20 minutes to learn an ingredient for an ordered pizza was unavailable and 40+ to get the pizza. Even trying to pay took 5+ minutes of waiting at the bar.
