My Family and a group of friends were traveling back to Everett from a wedding in Spokane and decided to stop for lunch and some shopping last weekend in the City. As we were hungry, we decided to get some lunches to go first thing and head to the nice park at Medical Lake.
As we got out of our cars with our Pekingese puppy, a nice City police officer came up to us and explained that there were no dogs allowed at the park. The officer answered that he didn't know why the City Council voted to excluded dogs from the Park. He explained that the reasons he was stationed at the Park was to inform people of this City law and to stop drinking in the Park. He approached several others attempting to enjoy the park with their small dogs as well. People were not happy to hear the news.
As it was 90 degrees that afternoon, we decided against leaving our 6lb pooch in the car and promptly left the Park and the City.
It's a shame that the prohibition is in effect. Whatever the reason for it, I'm pretty sure there is another more reasonable way to mitigate besides an outright ban on dogs, which requires spending money on a police presence.
Please share this letter with your City Council. Perhaps it will spur a reconsideration of the dog ban at the Park. We believe that the ban will hurt your fair City.
Sincerely,
Eric Irelan
