I ate and had drinks at this phenomenal restaurant this evening for the first time with other members of my Rotary Club. Everything about this restaurant and bar is unique, thoughtful and beautifully executed, from the authentic art on the walls, large comfortable bar, and warm inviting decor. The menu items and drinks are unique, perfectly prepared and beautifully served. Memento Mori is comparable to top restaurants in places like New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco (all places I lived previously before moving to Bakersfield). I am really excited that Bakersfield has such a special and top quality place to eat, drink, and comfortably spend time. While we were there, the owner of the restaurant joined us and explained the different types of Mezcal. He then shared with us samples of the different types of mezcal he had discussed. Each type of mezcal was delicious and completely different from one another. Aside from the excellent and unique drinks, including the different types of mezcal, the filet mignon I ordered was perfectly prepared, tender, flavorful and delicious. The seafood dishes that the rest of my group enjoyed also looked delicious, and everyone raved about how good their food and drinks were. This restaurant is a passion project for the owner, who is also a teacher in one of our local public high schools. I really hope people will support this special restaurant by enjoying their wonderful food and drinks and sharing with their friends.

Went on a Sunday, 2pm, when it was 110°f outside, and it wasn't much cooler inside, only ceiling fans going. I ordered the ceviche de cameron, and my wife ordered the lobster pasta. The ceviche was too sweet with ketchup, and I asked for some tapatio to counter the sweetness. We walked in with the servers at shift change and didn't get the best service, I had to flag down other servers to get water, tapatio, and more tostadas. The bathrooms were out of paper towels. Overall, it looks nice when you get but for food I'd rather go to islelitas or LA Costa. This place seems more like for drinks, tapas, and nite life, not a restaurant.

I've been here twice and everything I have tried has been superb. Definitely a twist to the classic Mexican seafood dishes. The owner was present the first time I went by and shared his vision behind his restaurant and the poet in me appreciated every detail. We tried the guava mezcal and it was amazing, highly recommend if you would like to try something different. The second visit was a little different, service a little slow for the amount of people present but workers were very courteous and attentive. As a new restaurant I recommend your servers have recommendations ready for the items you offer; I know its a seafood place but maybe having a vegetarian/vegan option.
