Our start to Magnolia Progressive Montessori was a bit rough. We started our daughter and son in February 2022 (they were 4 and 2). As they were adjusting from being at home into a school environment they were understandably emotional. The teachers showed us their patience and understanding. In 2022, three (3) of the staff stood out to us (Ms. Yancy, Ms. Yazmin (no longer staff), and Ms. Brenda). Now I cannot say enough about these ladies....with a revolving door of teachers back in 2022, they were my children's stability and had the longest tenure. My son was younger and was lucky enough to have these teachers. My daughter unfortunately was subjected to turn over after turn over. In her first month in 2022, her head teacher quit without notice and the assistant stepped in. She was great but also decided to leave. It took months to find a qualified Montessori head teacher for the 3-5 year old class, but after much patience we were blessed with Mrs. Antonette. Under Mrs. Antonette for the next 1.5 years, my daughter found stability, and felt safe under her direction. Mrs. Antonette experienced showed with her lessons plans. Prior to moving on to Kindergarten, my daughter left the school with the knowledge of reading 3-4 letter words, writing, good hand eye coordination, interest in learning, and always came home singing. Ms. Antonette's aide was Ms. Michelle and my children only had positive interactions with her. My son stayed with Ms. Yancy until he was 3.5. He was not the greatest with change and did not want to leave. Under Ms. Yancy and Ms. Itzel (no longer staff) at age 2.5 he was potty trained. He felt safe with both, and if you're a parent, it makes the anxiety go away knowing your children are with women you trust. Ms. Katherine was a new addition to the school last year (2023) (3-4 year old class), and my son eventually "level up'd". Ms. Katherine was accepting with my son's needs and rituals. She was personable, caring and attentive. Her lessons left an impression on my son, with him also knowing how to read, even at an earlier age than my daughter (4). Now Ms. Brenda does not get enough credit she deserves. She is AMAZING and as I understand it the longest tenure. She is the school cook and provides the delicious meals for the students. She does it all....she floats and provides support in each class when needed. She is a disciplinary but cares for the children deeply. My daughter is now 2 years out of Montessori and still tells me how she misses Ms. Brenda's food. Now of course all schools aren't perfect. For the cost of school, the school does not provide amenities like other schools I have seen across the country (i.e. video cameras for viewing, daily or weekly reports on your child, a true syllabus). If you do have questions the teachers are willing to provide their assessment. The director is not transparent and organized. There were occasions the staff changed and the parents were not notified. I was proactive and emailed directly to get the details, however was not pleased the answers were never factual. In addition, parents were occasionally notified late of any school events. In short, the school is not perfect, but if you have reservations, just trust the teachers and staff who are dependable. We stuck it out for 2.5 years until my kids qualified for public school and despite hiccups, my children had an overall positive learning experience. I commend the teaching staff for their perseverance and resilience. At this age, all one can hope for is that the teachers and staff that directly interact with your children not only teach but give your child individualized attention and have a positive impact on their lives. My kids still talk about their teachers and miss them dearly. To those ladies THANK YOU!
