MVP Arena is Albany’s premier arena for sports and entertainment. Originally named the Knickerbocker Arena and opened in 1990, the arena has gone through several name changes and some interior renovations. For the sports of hockey and basketball the seating is very good and the sightlines are excellent. Concerts here are usually pretty good, except if you sit high up at the end sometimes the arena’s speakers can obstruct your view. The arena is home to the Siena Saints basketball team. The arena’s capacity for basketball games is 17,500. Unfortunately, for most Siena games the arena is nowhere near filled. A curtain closes off the upper deck, where there are some good seats for viewing the games. They should consider removing the curtain for basketball games. For events with larger crowds the arena can really rock! In recent years the arena has added some features to enhance comfort. Some rows of seats have been taken out and replaced with larger lounging chairs. Courtside for basketball games you will also find tables setup for restaurant-like services. Concessions are just okay and rather pricey. The concourse level also has a few local restaurants that have setup shop there. Entrance to the arena is secure and getting tickets to events is generally easy. The arena does have a parking garage that is very close to the arena. There are also several other garages and lots near the arena where you will have to pay to park. You can also park in the Empire State Garage on level P3. For some events parking here is free. If you park here you will have to walk a little bit to get to the arena. MVP Arena is a nice place to take in entertainment of all sorts.
