This was my first visit to the National Portrait Museum located in downtown DC. The Museum covers 2 blocks with 3 stories. Tours are available; however, I opted to explore on my own. This is definitely the place to go if you want to view fine art throughout history and just be an introvert and peacefully nerd-out! The Museum is clean, quiet, and well-organized. The Museum store had a good selection of memorabilia to purchase, and the customer service reps had many interesting, historical stories to share. Cost? It's FREE!
A truly American portrait gallery which shows portraits of some of the most prominent Americans in American History. The more you know about individuals in American history, the more you'll enjoy this museum. From Sam Houston, to Davy Crockett, to John Calhoun, this museum seems to have everything.
There's a modern art section on the third floor...
Anyways, my favorite was floor 2 which had all the non-official portraits of the presidents. Look how distinguished William Taft (or is that Cleveland?) looks!
