During my attempted first appointment Becky interrupted several times while I was trying to relay traumatic experiences, invalidated the issues I wanted to address in my relationship because "everyone deals with that" and insisted that I was seeking "too much validation" from others by expecting reciprocal and respectful treatment in a situation that involves an abusive family member.
Becky suggested that I stop taking on any share of the domestic and childcare responsibilities by going "on strike" to get a change from my partner.
She made an incorrect assumption about me as a whole, based on a single statement. Attempting to correct her inaccurate assumption led to her flipping back through her notes while insisting that a quote she had written down was correct, and that my own feelings and thoughts I was expressing in that moment were not.
She believes that people only respond to one "love language" which insinuates that all of your other needs are less valid. She will assume what your love language is and you are not allowed to correct her.
She showed a disproportionate amount of empathy towards my partner while sharing inappropriate personal information, to the point where it feels like misconduct.
Despite not getting an accurate picture of what I'm experiencing she had a firm suggestion to solve my concerns by the end of the hour. A suggestion that would jeopardize my family's financial stability and cause me further stress to both my physical and emotional health.
I would not recommend her for anyone and I believe she has the capacity to do harm.
Skills seems to be that of a life coach and not a state-licensed trauma-informed therapist.
