ido's Backyard, a local spot with an impressive outdoor space, offers a mixed bag of experiences. Here's an honest breakdown:
Pros: • Expansive, inviting outdoor seating area • Lively atmosphere with events like paint and sip workshops • Efficient bar service for casual dining
Cons: • Tricky parking situation • Disappointing fish tacos • Some food quality issues
The Experience: Nido's Backyard caught my eye while searching for fish tacos in the area. The promise of a nice patio sealed the deal. Upon arrival, parking proved challenging - street parking feels risky, and the secure lot costs $5. Plan accordingly.
The outdoor seating is undoubtedly the highlight. During my visit, a paint and sip workshop added to the vibrant atmosphere. The layout is well-thought-out: sit in the outer patio for bar bites and drinks, order at the bar, and food is delivered to your table.
Unfortunately, the fish tacos fell short. While the beer batter was crispy and flavorful, the catfish lacked freshness, leaving an unpleasant aftertaste. The tortillas were flimsy, and the slaw seemed past its prime. It's worth noting that the menu might have other standout items, but the fish tacos aren't recommended.
Service was prompt and friendly, fitting the casual quick-service model. The ambiance, especially during daytime hours, is pleasant and relaxed.
Verdict: Nido's Backyard shines as a social spot with its impressive outdoor space and lively atmosphere. However, based on the fish tacos, the food needs improvement. It's a solid choice for drinks and ambiance, but you might want to explore other menu options or focus on the bar offerings.
Consider giving it a try for the atmosphere and events, but temper your expectations for the food. With some improvements in the kitchen, Nido's Backyard could become a true neighborhood gem.
Visited Nido's backyard for brunch in May 2024, and I'm glad I did! We had a delicious time, and I had two of their cold coffee brunch cocktails - I want more right now.
I went with the chilaquiles and was quite content - they come with chorizo, and it's nice to not need to add meat for more $$. Good flavor.
My friends were both eating lighter and went with the elote, but one was their standard elote asada, which came with lots of spicy & crunchy toppings. The second was the vegan version, served up with cashew cream. Both friends were happy with their corn!
I still want another of those coffee slushies.
Tried out Nido's backyard with friends last Monday, and it's a really inviting beer garden-like space!
We started with queso and a La Picosa cocktail for me, which you can get with tequila or mezcal, chipotle liqueur, lime, and honey. Loved the cocktail, and the queso had really nice flavor with jalapeno, chipotle, and a smokiness to the cheese.
My potatoes adovado flautas looked quite nice, but were lacking in flavor. My friend's blue corn quesadilla with squash blossoms was similar in that the freshness was welcome and the creativity great for vegan and vegetarian dishes, but more spice would be nice.
There was flavor galore in the duck enchiladas, mainly because that was a super rich, chocolatey mole! Expect a hearty meal out of that dish.
