Excellent resources and responses for Tenant Rights and Advocacy in all of Washington.I have prior experience with them from their Seattle "Hub" and have been promptly given answers via hard copy mailing and email/ phone support. They understand what tenants in this state face and have the ability to often guide you down a path leading you to direct Washington State laws for Landlord/Tenant questions and who may help further if they can't do it all. Indeed an organization that speaks beyond words in its practices. Thank you to all with the NWJP.
Their mission is noble. Office staff is experienced. Someone said there might be a couple visitor parking spots on the north side; otherwise you pay to park. The disabled ramp is on the north side, but there is no door button so good luck with the door. There is an elevator near the locked restrooms & the drinking fountains on both floors. No coffee. The building looks cool, straight out of the 70s, with lots of wood interior, a pebble stone feel on the main floor, very high lobby ceilings & lots of narrow, over-sized windows. But there are no seats in public areas (of course, being downtown...). The lobby of this office has seats, a side table & a public resource binder, full of information, like child safety, shelters, etc... There are two meeting rooms - one has an interior window, but the one on the east side does not have any windows.
Saw a weird thing, one male staff member in very loose bottoms went in the windowless room to meet with a supremely desperate somewhat attractive homeless woman with no money & no phone (she said). They were only in there a short time.
Overall though, the place was welcoming. They have a bathroom key for the building.
Please consider writing a grant for this small organization to have undercover security, in the form of a greeter, janitor or whatever. Or please consider volunteering as such, & creating the position. Their mission statement is harmless. After all, who could be opposed to people helping people. Yet there was an undercurrent of needing more security. Maybe a lot of crazies come in seeking help.
Very simple, clear rules of behavior are posted in a courteous fashion.
They might not be making the best use of space.
Please consider donating door security hardware here for the front door so it chimes because right now the old fashioned doorbell is too loud.
