The original bridge was constructed in 1914 for the Sunset Highway. This bridge is a replica of that old span as it was washed away years ago. On the east side of the bridge the Granite Mountain Lodge once stood. You can still see the foundation along the banks of the river. On the west side of the bridge is a Yellowstone Trail Marker. The Sunset Highway was also the route of the Yellowstone Trail. The marker most likely is not original but it has been there for over 20 years that I know of. Driving over the bridge gives a feeling of what it was like back then although in 1914 there were fewer trees. The road leads to the Denny Creek Campground and is closed during the Winter.
