This studio is bad. Teachers beat, yell and shame the students.

Her method is not for everyone. I do doubt her method as she expects a lot even for a young child and have them start practicing not just songs but separate finger exercises and theory. If your family and your child are not ready to make piano practice a very"major" part of the child's life, do not go there. He or she will be expected to practice a lot every day to meet her requirement, except for a young child they only has so much patience and energy.

My child attended piano lessons with Olive Yao, at OliveLand Studio for the past four years where she has been told repeatedly that she is “not a perfect student”, that “all of her friends are better than her”, that “she was accepted as a student because she is not American and she should be more disciplined in practicing”, she was yelled at and berated. Most of the lessons I set on so Ms. Yao’s behavior was hurtful but not unbearable for my child. So, this was clearly against my value system but I justified it with the notion that my kid is benefiting from music lessons and that I protect her by sitting in the room with her. It’s been kind of working for the past two years until the class on October 10th, when I wasn’t present in the room. When my husband came to pick our child up, Ms. Yau was yelling at her and hitting the piano with her hand while our child was bawling and shaking out of fear. At that point we realized the level of verbal and psychological abuse and terminated any further services with OliveLand Studio.
