I love supporting local businesses but unfortunately, OC Party Rentals fell short of a good experience. I placed my small rental order (one table, two tablecloths, 15 glasses, and nine plastic folding chairs) online on a Sunday and called the next business day to confirm. I spoke with Liz who advised they would deliver my rentals on 12/23 some time between 9am and 5pm since they would be closed on Xmas Eve 12/24, and they would pickup on 12/26 since they would be closed on Xmas Day 12/25. That was perfect as I was hosting Xmas Eve dinner.
On 12/23, I waited all day for our delivery and even called the office a few times to try and confirm but kept getting their answering service/machine that says they are with another customer and to leave a message. I left a message, called MULTIPLE times, emailed, asked for a reply via their Instagram channel, but heard nothing. By the time 4pm rolled around I started getting worried so I drove to their office and arrived about 430pm and spoke with a lady (I didn't get her name) who was at the desk in the office. She told me she still had three delivery trucks out, they were overbooked, checked that my name/order was on the list (other names were crossed off but mine wasn't), and said my order was still out for delivery. I mentioned to her that Liz had told me they would be closed the next day (Xmas Eve) and my event was on Xmas Eve and she said they would open for a couple hours on Xmas Eve but assured me I would still get my delivery that day. 5pm, 6pm, 7pm, 8pm came and NOTHING. I still had hopes at 9/10pm even though my husband kept telling me it wouldn't happen that late and he was right. No delivery, no call, nothing.
Next morning, I drove to their office at 7am (I requested delivery because my vehicles were not large enough to hold an 8 foot table). They were scheduled to be opened at 8am but I hoped someone would be there earlier. I just wanted to know if I would still get my rentals or if needed, I would pick them up and figure out a way to get them in my car. OR, if not, I would go buy tables, chairs, etc. My husband ended up taking my place to wait for a staff member to arrive to find out status of our order since I had to pick up my daughter from practice. He eventually spoke with a gentleman who advised our order would be delivered that morning and that he was informed that all customers who did not receive their orders the day before, were contacted and all customers approved delivery for the next day. I/we certainly did not receive such a call although if we had, we would have okay'd a morning delivery on Xmas Eve and it would have saved us ALOT of stress and worrying! This could have all also been avoided had they answered their phones on 12/23 when my delivery was supposed to arrive and/or informed me correctly when I was there in person to inquire about my delivery.
The ONLY good thing about this experience and the reason for 2 stars instead of only 1 star, was the friendly delivery driver, Ryan. Shortly after my husband left their office, Ryan called me (my name/number was the primary contact) to confirm the items I rented, confirm he would deliver my order by about 930am, apologized for the miscommunication, and even offered to help set-up when he arrived. When he arrived, he brought all our items in our home and again apologized. I didn't take him up on his kind offer to set-up as I figured others were waiting for their deliveries and I didn't want to delay him any further, especially on Xmas Eve. But it was kind of him to offer. I also received at text from him the morning of pickup on 12/26.
It is stressful enough planning an event but to have added stress from the rental company is not professional for their business. Unfortunately I will not be renting from OC Party Rentals in the future nor will I refer them to friends & family. Oh, and one more issue.....I ordered two 10-foot linen tablecloths and received one 10 foot and one 8 foot. Luckily, one of our tables (non-rented) that we were using the linen for, was shorter so the 8 foot linen worked.
My family and I planned a traditional wedding ceremony at our apartment to start at 11 am on a Saturday in Garden Grove/Westminster area. We chose OC Party Rentals based on good reviews and requested delivery of the rental items (tables, chairs, umbrellas, etc for 30 guests) the day before via their web portal. We wanted to have time to set them up and also do pre-wedding photoshoot and video recording on Saturday before the ceremony, so we wanted to set up the table/chairs the night before. Unfortunately, it seems that Orange County Party Rentals did not fully understand our situation and the need for items to be delivered the day before. We waited until the evening of Friday for the delivery and they did not deliver the items or give me a call on that day. I finally reached them in the morning on the day of the wedding to make sure that they would deliver the items the first thing in the morning. Consequently, this resulted in delays of the ceremony and cancelling the photo shoot. Guests had to help out set up the party. I would suggest that OC Party Rentals re-design its web portal, so that when its clients wanted to have the items delivered the day before, it would be more obvious and can easily be communicated within the team (currently, you have to indicate this in the invoice note). I would also advise future clients to get some form of written confirmation acknowledging their special requests for delivery rather than notes on the invoice or phone conversations with their coordinator. It may also help to get a direct phone number of the driver to ensure that he/she understands your request.
