There are 5.5 miles of unpaved, washboard, teeth-rattling roads to get in here. We made it in our 37-foot motorhome, but it took about 45 minutes! Other than that, this is a lovely, peaceful place to camp. We wouldn't do it again. Most spots are suitable for smaller rigs than ours. Each site has a covered picnic shelter and fire ring with grill. Vault toilets, no hookups. There are water spigots, but I'm not sure there was any water available. We didn't pay the fee at the kiosk because there were no fee envelopes. A ranger came by almost daily, so I don't think they are charging the fee ($6 per day) currently.
What a great campground. Keep in mind, there’s a bit of dirt roads to get here. When I visited the roads were very rutted and in need of grading. But I’m sure glad I made the effort. The area looks very other-worldly. It’s easy to pretend you’re another planet. The surrounds are very surreal. There was no water when I visited. There were a few trash bins. The toilets are “drop” style, with no water. The hike through owl canyon is fun as well. Overall, I’m so glad I came out of my way to stay here. Make sure you’ve got exact change to pay your fees. It was $6 per night when I visited for a dry site.
