Brought in a board for repair with some mild cracking in the nose. Before going there, we called and asked what their pricing was like. We were told their shop minimum is $50, but they’d give us an estimate before any work. Their place is tough to find. They’re in the back of a house, in a residential community.... right... they called my wife a few hours after dropping it off and told her it would be $175.... what? For epoxy and labor? You’re kidding me right? The cracks in the nose were minimal. I called them and asked them why it’d be so expensive. They referred me to the owner Bobby, I asked what the estimate covered and he couldn’t really explain, muttered something about the potential for bubbling but offered to do it for $125. Red alert. Why would it be so much cheaper just because I asked? The Subaru dealership wouldn’t behave like that, but a shady repair shop would. He then told me I was ”clearly a picky guy”... great customer service bud. I’m not picky, just don’t wanna be ripped off and expect that a shop can explain to me what they’re billing me for. Ultimately, we agreed he’d shoot for the $50 mark to make it water tight but was not to exceed $125. Not a lot of options around for this kind of work and I just wanted it done. Bobby calls me 3 hours later, tells me he’s not comfortable doing business with us. K. Whatever. I wasn’t real comfortable with them for obvious reasons but, again, there’s not a lot of options around for this stuff. Agreed to pickup the board, he told me they’d be open until 7. Drove over, they close at 6. BUT, texted him back and he told me to go ahead and pick it up from their backyard. They hadn’t bothered to secure my board (or any of the rest of their customer’s board) for the night after closing up shop. I looked up how to repair this on YouTube, not much involved. Epoxy is about $7 at Home Depot. We’ll take care of it ourselves. This place wasted our time and appeared to try to rip us off. Word to the wise Bobby, an estimate for repair should be something you can explain in writing. Also, don’t insult your customers by telling them they’re picky only to back out of an agreement.
