I'll be honest, I was slightly skeptical at first. A lot of the reviews or personal testimonials I had heard made me a little suspicious with all the "immediate results" comments I heard.
Whew boy, was I wrong.
Background - I am preparing to leave for Military Basic Training and have been struggling with shin splints due to running too hard too quickly. And from what I've heard, shin splints are not something you want to have going into the military. While everyone told me to just "wait it out and they'll heal", I didn't have that kind of time and risked stress fractures if I didn't address them before I shipped - so I sought out Dr. Kyle Palmer upon recommendation from several friends.
In a world full of inconsistent and/or insensitive medical professionals, "breath of fresh air" is putting it lightly - Kyle was extremely personable, easy to talk to, and eager to help figure out MY individual issues without immediately just trying to draw from some medical memory bank in his head and give me a general diagnosis. Honestly, this guy would make a great mental health professional to boot. He spent an appreciable amount of time listening and working with me to figure out EXACTLY where I was at, where my issues were, and where I wanted/needed to be. He recognized my timeline and wasn't bothered by the fact that I obviously wasn't going to be able to be a repeat customer more than once or twice. He genuinely cared and that meant the world to me.
After this discussion and a fair bit of educating on the background of my issues, he got to work with some manual therapy, explaining what he was doing step by step and how it all tied into the education I received earlier, how it would affect me, and so on. I'll spare the details, but any concerns I had about this not being a "professional" medical experience left quickly, it was actually pretty fascinating to see him work on my legs and the muscles/areas associated with my shin splints. He ended with giving me some exercises to work on, and I went my way.
(Quick side note - although they do not accept insurance, they are happy to provide Superbills for you to manually submit to your provider - no guarantees of course, but it worked for me. My Insurance kept rejecting the bill due to stupid little things, but Kyle patiently helped me make corrections several times until insurance was willing to take it. That was rad.)
I'd say about 90% of the pain I previously felt was gone when I went running later that same day. By the time my second and final appointment rolled around, I had improved my mile run time by about 25% and felt ZERO pain in my shins or legs in general, and have continued to increase my run intensity without issue. I feel like freakin Superman. After literal months of anxiety over shin splints and potential stress fractures, I finally feel ready to give it my all in Basic Training, thanks to Dr. Kyle Palmer.
I can't say enough good about my experience, and can guarantee you'll have a similar experience if you choose to visit Performance Health and Wellness.
