I am a grandma in her mid 60’s. Playing piano has always been a dream, but until recently I had no formal education in music at any level, or piano in particular. I did watch my kids take piano lessons when they were very young. They showed skill at various levels, but eventually quitted. I wish they had had someone like Susan for instructor, as perhaps they would have felt inspired to persist.
I started my own lessons a couple of years ago, and with Susan in early summer/2020. I found her when looking for virtual classes, when the pandemic prevented me from taking my in-person classes with a previous instructor. What I got in Susan was a transformative instructor, someone who made me feel validated and excited with learning piano at my age.
Susan brings to her classes an outstanding mix of musical rigor, friendly encouragement, and customized and disciplined methodology. Lessons are fun, exciting and highly productive. She lets me choose pieces I would like to try, while also suggesting pieces that prove exciting and rewarding. Some of my most favorite pieces were her suggestions.
Her professionalism and organization skills are outstanding. She has an great ability to introduce exercises that are highly effective in overcoming challenges in my play. Her homework sets have allowed me to grow my skills in a structured, yet fun way. Furthermore, she will often share with her students musical events worth watching and learning about.
Susan has made a world of difference to how I look at, and enjoy, piano. I find her inspiring, and I am looking forward to having in-person lessons with her when the pandemic conditions allow.
I highly recommend Susan.
