I've been working with Sybil for a little over two years. I was classically trained on the piano as a child, and had taught myself guitar over several years. I was able to play guitar somewhat proficiently, but I wasn't really progressing as I would hope after years of study.

Working with Sybil, I have been able to overcome this plateau, and I've made enormous strides in my guitar technique, as well as with my songwriting ability and goals. Sybil personalizes our lessons, catering to my goals as a musician. It's a very dynamic approach to teaching, and one that I have had much more success with than previous teachers.

My abilities as a songwriter and guitarist would not be where they are today without Sybil. I highly recommend study with her and the rest of her instructors.

After literally innumerable failed attempts at learning to play the guitar through other teachers, both live and online, I've finally at long last found a teacher in Sybil at Portland Guitar Academy who's put me on a path of discernible progress. Sybil is a virtuoso as a guitarist but is also a gifted teacher, and it is difficult to find those two qualities exemplified so superlatively as they are in Sybil. She is patient, very understanding, and gives me as a student a realistic sense of what my expectations should be. I would wholeheartedly recommend Portland Guitar Academy to anyone seeking to seriously learn to play the guitar.

I found Portland Guitar Academy at the end of last year and I am very happy to be there. Sybil is a great teacher who is calm and knowledgeable. She calmly explains not just how to play different techniques for the guitar, but why its important. It's not just learn a song and that's it. She wants you to be able to play any song or your own, and have these skills last a lifetime. Other teachers I have had just say do this, but do not really explain the science behind it. Sybil is a great teacher and musician, she encourage you to be creative in your learning and not just stick to what ever is out there.
