One of the delights of walking around the Mt Tabor neighborhood is looking at the houses, mostly built at about the same time, 100+ years ago, and enjoying the gardens and landscaping, each with the accumulated personal touches of a century of different homeowners. Portland Nursery was, according to their website, founded in 1907. So, I think we have them to thank for supplying most of the greenery that exists in this part of town. Seeing their overflow parking lot overflowing on any nice Saturday in the springtime, it's wonderful that they are still such a vital part of the community. Speaking of which, my wife used to teach at a neighborhood school, and for many years, Portland Nursery would host an annual fundraising auction - I can't imagine how much of their inventory the Nursery staff would have to move in order to put on a community event like this, but I'm thrilled to have such wonderful neighbors that are connected so deeply with their customers.
I've been going here for decades......still one of the best general nurseries in PDX metro. This nursery is centrally located on the near eastside of PDX. Portland Nursery has been here for decades at this same location. I always enjoy browsing the outdoor plant section, although they have a small indoor plant area as well in their main building. They have a general selection of shade tolerant and sun loving plants. Perennials and annuals. A few palm types Roses Japanese maples Some fruit trees Veggies Berries They also carry some pots, fountain features and a limited selection of aquatic plants Parking in the lot can be a challenge on weekends--overflow to streets and a small lot a block away. Prices are definitely on the spendy side but the quality is decent. They have a well staffed info desk to help out with questions. Recommended
