CSUF Geology 380 mapping destination #1. What an amazing area! If 14.5 million year old sedimentary strata is your interest, then this is the place for you. The Barstow Formation displays it's upper and middle units along with all their vibrant colors. Jump in the car, and make the drive. You will not be disapointed.

Beautiful. Worth the detour through the one-way driving loop. There are places to pull off, get out and take photos. Areas clearly formed by water when this area was a lake (prehistoric times), plus clearly visible sediment layers, then areas where the layers are slanted from earthquake movement. Greens, reds, browns, beautiful color variations in the formations.

Totally beautiful spot. Great colors of nature, fascinating rocks and terrain and hiking. Easy road for pick up trucks or smaller vehicles. Wouldn’t suggest trying with an RV or if towing a trailer.
