A few years back, my partner needed some emergency support. To be honest I can’t remember exactly what the insurance situation looked like. I had us double covered with KP and United. I just remember going to to the Kaiser ER and that team was able to locate an available bed here at Rainier Springs. I think it was something of a new facility at the time.
We were thankful for the ability to get my partner somewhere comfortable so quickly. The only thing that was alittle frustrating was coordinating visitation. It wasn’t very close to our home and I was told one thing over the phone and another at the lobby. Being turned away on the first attempt, even tho it was the time I was instructed. The staff tried to blame a newer employee. But, Frankly the desk staff was kinda rude about the situation. Treating me like I was asking for them to bend the rules or something. Rather than simply acknowledge my feelings, and help to provide the correct information. - The second attempt was only marginally better. Our son was only about 3years old at the time and the tiny closet of a room they packed us into with the supervisor was kinda stressful. (Rather than providing each of them with some comforting formular support.) Also, I remember when I was waiting for them to collect my partner. There was a husband and wife trying to check-in there adolescent son. I’m not going to disclose their business, only making the point that I was able to hear everything from the kid’s birthday and social, to the medical needs bringing him to the facility, some of his medical history and part of a diagnosis. And I was just sitting in the lobby chair. - They didn’t have a private intake area apparently? IDK like I said I think they were newer, so maybe they got something things together?
On the inside: My partner reported that it was comfortable and socially supportive. Making friends with other folks there, and even connecting with them afterwards. Something about food and snacks being regulated a lot, and being provided time to be outside and opportunities to smoke. They made phone calls pretty easy (once provided the number, not aloud to check devices for contact info, I guess.) and made note of how people had shown up to the shared sleeping quarters, in the middle of the night still in crisis. Disturbing folks that had already acclimated and we’re resting. — probably also a new / low staff thing during the beginnings of operations.
All and all thankful for the services. It was important for my partner to stay for the time they did, and I try to be respectful and let them manage their own mental health. So I don’t know everything about the visit. I just know they were a lot more stable and positive afterwards. Confident in the medication they decide on with the Dr. They come out with a plan and were able to manage and complete the steps involved themselves. - It wasn’t any thing that impacted our relationship, good or bad. It was more of a personal situation. Very thankful that they were able to find support when I wasn’t able facilitate what they were needing in that time of crisis. - Seeking help is never a bad thing. It can be hard, and these folks at Rainier Springs helped to minimize the embarrassment or whatever and get to the problem solving/ symptom managing.
Hope the review helps. I wish everyone good mental health.
I have stayed here twice. It is better treatment than other psych hospitals but the communication amongst departments is terrible. I was told 3x my bill was being written off and to not worry about it. In fact before I even stayed the first time I was told not to worry I wouldn’t owe anything. I am now told I owe thousands of dollars that I can’t afford and when I reminded them I was told I don’t owe anything they claim they have no records of that so too bad. Also while there they had a food shortage and the cooks did the best they could but they were often out of whatever was on the menu and had to quickly throw things together. One breakfast was undercooked hard potatoes, a small dry muffin, and hot cereal with no milk or brown sugar as they were out of both of those things. Next time I have the urge to unalive myself it’ll be a better and more affordable option to just successfully do so than ever deal with these people again. Don’t trust anything they say.
