The worst services I have ever experienced. Spent endless amounts of my time trying to resolve problems with this company. I would give them a 0- if I could. I am stuck with them because the city set it up like that. Thank you Mr. Eric Garcetti. you obviously don't care about anyone but yourself.and you pocket book. I am paying triple what I paid last year and have the worst service possible. The garbage is overflowing because they never show. My manager in the apartment building has to call them 4 and 5 times to get them to come out. I asked for a credit and suddenly they can't find all the times they missed so they will call me back. Never get a call back until they call a month later to add on a late fee of $175. but only a discount for 2 missed times when they missed over 10 times. They are the worst co. imaginable. I will have to charge my tenants now for garbage collection and I will certainly tell them it is because of the city council Monica Rodriquez and Gil Garcetti. Do not ever vote for them again. They are only out to hurt you with this lock in process of trash collection that is under their contract (They are all bought and sold)
TLDR: Republic Services is overpriced, impossible to cancel service and has continued to charge us even after we moved. LA city is complicit for contracting with them.
Our business, Firefly Food Truck Fabrication, had been paying Republic Services between $250 - 500/mo to empty our dumpster weekly for three years. However, we had decided to lease a new, larger property in Santa Clarita and would be vacating our old address before Dec 31st, 2020.
I logged in to our online Republic Services account 6 weeks in advance to request a change of service address. After putting the new lease address into Republic Services' website, I found our that they couldn't service our new location. I then tried to cancel online, but apparently cancellation is not allowed through their website. I was given a number to call and called immediately to cancel.
After a 20 minute hold time I spoke with a rep who confirmed that they were unable to service our new location. I asked to cancel. I was told by the rep that she could not cancel my account and I would have to speak with our Republic Services account manager. She then offered to connect me to the account manager. After a short hold, the rep said she was unable to reach our account manager. "Okay... please give me her number". The rep said she wasn't allowed to give me her number, but that she would request that the account manager call me back to process the cancellation. "Inconvenient, but there's still plenty of time before we move" I thought.
I waited 3 weeks - THREE WEEKS! - for the account manager's call which I received in early December. The account manager again confirmed that she couldn't service our new address (I know), asked for the date we wanted to discontinue service (Dec 31st), and said she would process our cancellation request. "Well that was a hassle but at least it's done now".
It'sJanuary 25th and we are still being billed monthly (now over $500/mo for Jan and Feb). I called a billing rep today at Republic Services and explained the situation after another long hold. She told me our account is still "active" (ie. was never cancelled) and said she couldn't cancel it or refund the $1000+ in fraudulent charges. She transferred me to another number (I think LA city) where I was put on hold again. I spoke to another rep there, who "processed my complaint" and said that someone will return my call from Republic Services within 24 hours.
This experience has been ridiculous. LA city needs to stop doing business with Republic Services or at least overhaul the cancellation process.
I will update this post if/when I receive a call from Republic Services.
Fyi WM Waste Management services our new address and they charge half the price for 50% more dumpster AND we can fully manage our account online. Highly recommend WM.
