I live in Bellevue and when I was told I was to have a medical procedure in one of the several large health care facilities in Seattle, I was fine with that. When the physician told I would need a companion to accompany me and drive me to and from my home, I couldn't imagine how I was going to do that. Having recently moved to Bellevue with most of my friends nowhere near, and even more recently lost my very dear friend to cancer who would have happily helped me, I had no idea how I was going to manage. Thank goodness my doctor's assistant said "call this phone number and they will help." And indeed they did!
I called Right-at-Home--Seattle using the number I had been given by the doctors assistant and a live person actually answered the phone! She introduced herself as "Eve" and was so kind and patient that I wondered if I had miss dialed! I explained my predicament and she listened patiently; she even asked questions about where I lived.
My procedure was not taking place for another 3+ weeks so she told me that it may be closer to the time of my procedure that there would be a someone to volunteer. I was nervous about not getting someone to drive and stay with me so I called Eve several days before I needed help. Of course, Eve answered the phone as she always does and she comforted me by telling me that she "didn't have a name yet", but there was no question that she would have someone there for me on the day I needed them. And she did!
Jan called me just before arriving at my home that morning (per my request) and she was exactly on time to pick me up and head to Seattle. She picked me up from my home at 6:00AM for my arrival at the place of my procedure by 6:30. She had no problems with directions getting to my house and she drove right to the correct place. We had a wonderful chat on our way which helped calm my nerves so I was ready to meet up with the doctor for my procedure.
Jan waited in the waiting room for me to finish the procedure and talk with the doctor, plus make sure I was awake enough for her to take me home. We visited a bit before we left to give me a chance to get oriented and then we were on our way. Jan was so kind and thoughtful, looking after my needs and even asked if I needed to pick up anything before she took me home. I also had the opportunity to ask Jan more about the services of Right at Home in case I would need help again. Without talking like a business person, she answered my questions and offer ideas of ways Right at Home can be helpful to me. She was very kind about the needs of older folks like me and I was impressed with her knowledge of how to visit with me without making me feel incapable of managing things myself.
Thank you very much for introducing me to the kind and thoughtful caregivers in Right at Home and for changing a very difficult thing for me to do on my own into a safe, comfortable, and even pleasant event! Linda
