Consider the Met market the new wholefoods when it comes to prices. You'll be spending a pretty penny here but the quality in produce and hot bar items is worth it. You can definetly still be a smart shopper here when it comes to the basics. Staff have always been friendly and helpful. They are rarely out of staple items. They do stock some not so common European, indian, and Asian staples too, including kosher. They also have a great little cafe with gelato and baked sweets for the kids.
