I rented a property on AirBnb hosted by Savvy Bears as well as a woman named Melia. After receiving the check in details I noticed that it said I needed to pick up keys by a certain time from an office away from the cabin. I contacted Melia informing her that I would be leaving work at 6pm in LA and would not be able to reach them in time to collect the keys. She explained that I could come later but would have to spend $25 extra every hour I made them wait past. I then asked her kindly if she could wave the fee as I was used to checking in with a pin pad in the past and she began explaining how that was impossible because Big Bear has made renters exchange keys in person for years now. So instead of arguing with her I sent pictures from previous stays with proof that renters had allowed me entrance through a pin pad. The thought of being wrong must have sent her off because then she started telling me how that renter was going to lose their license and started asking me to "please follow the rules and respect her decision" which was strange because not once did I ask her to break her own rules like leave the house open or a key under the mat. I only asked if she could wave a fee for a renter that (with picture proof) was not aware of the new rules in the area. I then left it at that and decided to handle it the following morning. To my surprise however, Melia had waited until 2am in the morning when I would be asleep and then canceled my stay without any notice whatsoever. I was fine with this because I received a full refund and more and got a laugh thinking about her staying up for that late night 2am jab. I should have been more vigilant because later I started reading reviews from her places and many of them were negative and each time sassy Melia was there, not to provide support or help with the issues, but to argue with the renter about why they were wrong and how it was their fault. I'll post some pics of the funny ones. Sweet costumer service XD In the end I ended up dodging a bullet, getting a better deal, oh and the place I'm staying at now has a pin pad where I'll be checking in Melia. Cheers!
PS: after reading some of the 5 star reviews it's clear those reviews are from family friends or relatives that clearly haven't read the multiple low star reviews ranging from costumer service to unsanitary conditions and post fake 5 star reviews to boost numbers which is a red flag on the renter not the costumer.
