I would have loved the opportunity to complete this role and looked forward to learning so much. Was hired early 07/2024 as a med scribe trainee, initial training with testing modules lasted over a month. Waited 2 weeks to be placed for apprenticeship; equipment came shortly after on 8/5. Company uses Epic EMR (which I have no experience with, I noted this when applying and interview) and I had to wait an additional 2 weeks for EMR access WHILE training for my provider. I had at least 5 different trainers, and my first trainer scribed for a different doctor than I was assigned to. Fired on 9/6 for "failing apprenticeship".
So, as my background was scribing dictations with no experience doing live scribing, training was a large learning curve for me but was told by ALL my trainers this was not an issue and that I would get the hang of it. All my trainers (Ally, Mika, Tyler, Rag, Sam) never once gave me feedback that implied I needed to be at a certain standard by a certain date (which is usually how passing an apprenticeship works). They all said the NP I was assigned to was pretty difficult for newbies (as she requires her scribes to chart, put in Dx/orders, write the after visit note all at the same time, plus or minus duties the MA would do) and I would learn her preferences over time.
I studied and compiled so many notes trying to prepare for my role. Last week, I was scheduled to work solo despite the fact my educator (Chris) said this was NOT supposed to happen. I'm then paired with scribe Julie that day, someone who self-admittedly did not know the NP's preferences. I did not do well independently (because I'm still in the process of learning this very particular NP's preferences), did the best I could, any questions I asked Julie she did not know bc this is not her provider, but Julie only had positive feedback during my shift (and again, states once I get over my nerves she thinks I will do well)! When I get the termination call from Chris, he goes into all this "concerning" feedback (that I have NEVER heard myself) that the trainers gave to him about my lack of progress and ability to keep up. If this was the case, I should have been told! Why would they all say that I'm doing well and it will take time if that wasn't the case? He then states "Epic is quite an easy EMR, even scribes with no experience would be solo by this time". Seriously? If you have no background in the EMR, it is a HUGE learning curve. And if I was to be solo by that time, why would you agree with me days prior that I SHOULDN'T have been solo, as it is well known that provider is challenging for new scribes.
If you needed to fire me, you should've just said so when you called me or gave me insight through follow-up! Instead of talking down to me and making up all these claims that were never discussed with me...and then saying, "I will follow up with the trainers and get back to you." How spineless. A very unpleasant experience.
