It's a place you almost want to give maybe 2 stars, but by the time you get seated and the 5 star food and service experience begins, all what's negative washes away.
The negative is the no reservations, wait in a long line, and cash only. This is our third visit over the years, and this time we thought maybe a late dinner is a better option - but no, though they do take names up to close & will sit parties on the list after closing hour.
I do realize that restaurants lose a lot of revenue by holding tables open for reservations and not being able to keep tables full all night. So it's forgivable. But the no cards policy I'm no so. We happen to cobble together enough cash this visit, but I suspect many like me do not carry a real ATM card but the one they've put in their cell phone wallet, which many non-bank ATMs don't take.
Tonight was one of the daily fish dishes (soul) and the scallops. Both were excellent, and the presentation of the soul was impeccable. The service from everyone coming to our table was excellent.
So it's a 5 star experience, again. Best to be consumed on those evenings when you feel like watching the waves and sunset while waiting for your table.
This is an amazing restaurant. I have been here twice. I am a solo traveler. Both time Sat at the bar. There was so much action watching people cooked. I met people who sat next to me and chat with them like my long time friends.
Food is fresh, delicious and well prepared with love and precision. I had raw clams oysters, fried calamari strips, salad and steam bowl clam tonight. It was wonderful. Even the sourdough bread is delicious. I will come one more time before heading back to Chicago. This is my favorite restaurant in Cambria. And the Cambria people are super nice.
