This dentistry will try and siphon as much money as possible from you with excessive treatment plans and unnecessary add ons. I've never been to a healthcare facility that has tried to sign me up for so many procedures that I did not need or want. They've recently tried to set me up for a deep cleaning treatment plan for four times a year. I already think that is extremely excessive considering most people go to the dentist twice a year and I do not have any particular dental problems that need to be addressed. After they confirmed with me that I would have to pay out of pocket for two of the four treatments, I refused their treatment plan insisting that two times a year would be sufficient, they call me back less than 5 minutes later to tell me that my "insurance has changed" and that they would keep me on the quarterly cleaning. I had to once again cancel the appointment they made for me after I already said I did not want to move forward with their excessive treatment plan.
Also, I've been out of braces for about eight years at this point, but they insisted on fitting me for a retainer to prevent my teeth from moving again. I have not worn my retainer in about five years and my teeth have not shifted in the slightest. Additionally, they recently removed my permanent retainer and requested a temporary retainer for my bottom teeth. I expected them to just order one retainer for me, but instead they ordered four retainers for me without my knowledge and made me pay for the extra retainers. Their reasoning was that I might lose them, or one might break and insisted that I needed four years' worth of retainers and assumed I would need a new one each year. Even if that was the case, I would order additional ones from them, and I definitely did not need or want four retainers which was a massive out of pocket cost for me.
Also, this is completely a personal ideology, but there is absolutely no reason why I should be receiving advertisements from my healthcare provider. I am already a patient at your practice, it is ridiculous that you are advertising treatments to me. I get that I am in a younger demographic, but it definitely feels like you are trying to take advantage of my naivety to get more money.
Finally, their practice is just blatantly not great. Their licensed dentists are good at their job, but the dental hygienists and assistants leave a lot to be desired. Dental hygienists often do not know how to operate the machinery and dental assistants often do not know how to help. When I was getting x-rays for my retainer, it took nearly an hour of the dental hygienist trying to take my x-rays with a new machine for them to give up and ask the dentist for help, for which the dentist was able to get it done first try in about five minutes. When I was getting my dental implant, the periodontist had to keep reminding the assistant for suction and where the tools they needed was. I could tell the periodontist was getting frustrated with the assistant and eventually began doing the assistant's work themselves.
All in all, their practice is fine generally, but I can't help but feel like they are trying to take advantage of me. I'm not sure if this is because of a lack of communication on their end with treatment plans or if I've somehow become very cynical with healthcare. But it is crazy that sometimes I will go in for what I thought was a normal cleaning to be surprised with them saying that they've scheduled a procedure for that day that I had no knowledge of.
Isaiah, the hygienist done an excellent job at cleaning my teeth. Dr Ana is a great doctor who listen and answer your concerns - she’s amazing.
