Incompetent sales staff, poor quality fans. I thought that by going to an actual lighting store, I'd be getting better quality fans with expert advice to aid installation and operation. Nope. All I wanted was a large fan with lights and a 6 foot downrod to replace my old ceiling fan. I placed my order with the sales person (who couldn't answer my questions), special ordering 70" blades to make the fan as large as possible. Then I ordered a second fan for the bedroom, same style, just one size smaller, with the same blade color to match the large fan. The fans took 3 weeks to arrive to the store, and then I had to go pick them up. When I opened the box, I discovered the lighting kits were brass, not the oil rubbed bronze I had ordered, and the fans came with the custom ordered blades as well as the stock blades. Oh, but the custom blades were half as thick as the standard blades. But the screws provided in the fan box were too long. So my poor contractor had to install the stock blades and the brass light kit so he could check the fan operation. Did I mention this fan is mounted 30 feet in the air? Oh, and the fan support cable that is supposed to hold the fan up during installation as well as provide a backup safety catch should the screws in the downrod fail, was TOO SHORT!!! I bought a 6 foot downrod and the permanently installed support cable was too short to reach all the way through it to mount the fan!!!! I had to go dig around in my garage for 16 gauge wire and have my contractor fashion a different support cable!! Then, I had to wait another 2 weeks for the correct lighting kit and correct screws to be ordered and delivered to the lighting store, and then had to pick them up as well. Then, in their supreme ignorance, the sales person (different one) gave me the correct lighting kits and 5 sets of screws (you know, one for each blade) that were supposedly the right length. Get home, open 1 screw packet and discover 2 sets of screws within this packet, enough for 5 blades, that were LONGER than the screws provided for the standard blades!!! So I now have 5x5x2=50 screws that are longer than the ones originally provided, that were too long to begin with!!! To make matters worse, the second fan was installed, the "Learning Process" was conducted on the wall mounted control switch, and, it DOESN'T WORK!! I'm just really fed up with the incompetence or inexperience, or whatever it is that has caused all of these issues. I didn't even bother writing about the ridiculous fan quality itself. Terrible written instructions, no parts list, a portable cover provided for the wall mount "remote" that has to be hardwired in order to work so what's the point of the portable cover? Good grief. Save yourself the hassle, go to a big box store and buy a fan off the shelf, and skip Seattle Lighting.
