I am writing this after sending a friend to this doctor. Who improved under Dr. Shurman but still has some complaints. Dr Shurman is a good doctor and good man, but he is not perfect and there is room for improvement.

It is almost impossible to find a psychopharmacologist accepting new patients in this area. Dr. Shurman came recommended by a well-regarded psychiatrist on the West Side. His intake process was done by an empathic assistant, by phone, not written forms. Dr. Shurman asked great questions, came up with a variety of ideas and potential solutions and— almost never happens— actually went over an hour until all my questions were answered. His last words were heartening: “I look forward to getting you better.” Any person facing persistent depression and complex bereavement as I was should make an appointment immediately. He is the real thing!

I am a therapist in Los Angeles, and trust Dr. Shurman implicitly. I have worked on numerous cases with him, and he is ethical and provides the highest quality of care to the patients I have shared with him. He is one of the best psychiatrists in Los Angeles, if not in the state of CA.
