My first and only interaction with the owner of Sky Valley Midwifery (April) was very negative. To summarize as best as I can: there aren't many midwives within 50 miles of the Tri Cities who perform home births. In the process of applying for an in-network gap exception for my home birth midwife who doesn't work for Sky Valley, my insurance informed me that one of the midwives through Sky Valley (Olga) is in my insurance network.
My insurance company told me they could pursue the gap exception request if Olga was full for my due date, so I explained the situation to April and asked if Olga was full. April immediately accused of trying to commit insurance fraud (which is a felony) when I was simply following the instructions of my insurance company with no fraudulent intent whatsoever.
I'm sure the midwives here do good work, but even if I was "in the market" for a different midwife I wouldn't choose this group simply because of the way I was treated.

I'm so thankful to have found April and her team. I've been a patient for over three years and am now having my second baby. April is knowledgeable, supportive and offers a level of care and attention that goes above and beyond what I have heard the typical experience is like with an OBGYN. I had an ideal home birth the first time around and am looking forward to the next. I am located in Cle Elum. So happy to be working with April and her team again at Sky Valley Midwifery. They also offer pediatric services now which I have been using for my toddler and all our experiences have been so great.

I really enjoyed my first home birth with April and her team (my third baby). She was easy to talk to, confident, knowledgable, naturally minded but not overly crunchy. She was much more relaxed and less strict than the midwives I worked with for my hospital births at Swedish First Hill, and appointments were longer and less rushed. I loved that she practiced informed consent and gave me an option to opt out of absolutely every routine thing that they never even ask you about at a hospital. Masks were optional (though they always wore them so I did too). My husband and kids were able to join appointments. Communication was quick and easy through email if I ever had a question. I would definitely work with her again. Just during the course of my pregnancy, I feel like she got way more busy (with so many opting for home births), so reach out to her early!
