I am generally easy going, which is to say I cut people a fair amount of slack. I’m low maintenance and prefer giving people the benefit of the doubt. My two experiences at the North Bend Family Clinic have tested my resolve and my willingness to be so forgiving. Let me pause for a moment to comment on the hardworking administrative support and nursing staff at this clinic. They were gracious, kind, and… well, human. That’s all. I’m not looking for a medical clinic that blows my mind and sheds new light on the human plight, but I don’t think it’s too much to expect people to treat you with basic human kindness and respect. If I could, I would do a separate, positive review for the gals behind the reception desk checking vitals. THEY were friendly, efficient, and professional. The doctor, however, was the opposite. Jaime Yeverino-Flores was not friendly, not efficient, and most decidedly not professional. In fact he couldn’t be bothered coming in the room to speak to me until I requested it specifically. When I offered him feedback, in a way that I can assure you was more evenly measured and gracious than he deserved, he became defensive. His body language, presence, and general demeanor were everything you DON’T want in a doctor. Hell, I wouldn’t want a mechanic who only reluctantly discussed my car with me (after being fetched by his assistant per my request), with his arms folded across his chest a condescending, impatient tone. When I mentioned to the doctor that I was surprised by his lack of engagement, surprised by the fact that he chose not to come in the room to talk to me one-on-one, having sent the nurse to communicate on his behalf, he said (again, defensively) that he was just trying to save money, because coming in the room and having conversations cost money. I’m just going to leave that there.
At any rate, I was so thrown by this doc's attitude that I failed to ask why I was charged the same co-pay of a “normal” visit if he was choosing to provide, without my request or consent, a “bargain” grade service.
If you’re looking for an infuriating, degrading sort of doctor-patient relationship, then by all means, go to the North Bend Family Clinic. If you’re looking for engaged, personal attention, you’ll have better luck going next door to the DMV.
