Short version: We couldn't have asked for a better daycare! Absolutely wonderful! Super friendly, clean, and they truly care!
Long version: The Fairchild daycare didn't have a spot available for our son, so we had to look off-base. LUCKILY I learned about the Child Care Aware of America subsidy program and found Kinder Care South Hill was already pre-approved for that program! AT THE TIME it seemed like a last resort option. It was a far drive from base, we didn't know anyone else who had gone to this daycare, and we're not from here! BUT the staff there were so great with our son and treated him as one of their own. We were lucky to have them for the six months my son attended before getting a spot at the on-base daycare. (My son started at 12 weeks old, and we left when he was about 9 months old). Huge shout out to Michelle, Melissa, Molly, Amara, Jenna, Cara, Penny and I know I'm missing a few! You guys made us feel at home and we never had to worry about our little guy; you took such great care of him!
I’m a little shocked this place doesn’t have worse reviews. That definitely mislead me and is the only reason I was willing to consider it.
There were a number of issues with our experience, first and foremost that during a tour we watched a teacher from another classroom screaming at a child. Mind you, this child was not running around with a lot blowtorch about to burn the place down. The child was standing and the teacher wanted them to sit. So they screamed at them. Neither the person giving us the tour nor anyone else in their very-open building seemed remotely concerned.
The place itself is pretty overstimulating when you walk in and they had some communication issues with our enrollment. I might have overlooked that given how competitive daycare is in Spokane, but the experience with that teacher pushed us to hire a nanny instead and give up the $100 enrollment fee.
Note my daughter has been in two other daycares and the drop-in daycare at Schweitzer, and we’ve had great experiences with all of those. We don’t ask for a lot…just don’t yell at my kid (or any kid unless it’s a huge safety thing).
I did let the director know what happened when we pulled my daughter and she apologized but I have no reason to believe anything is going to change.
