Beautiful trail with views of Lassen, and awesome spattercone geology including little caves. I wish it were marked better. We went down a few wrong trails on the way back, which wouldn't be a big deal, but with a dog on a very hot day, was a bit stressful.

This is a well marked trail that takes you past several different lava formations. There are several lava tubes. My daughter and I spent so much time climbing through a couple of them we didn't get to complete the training. It is not a very strenuous hike, though it does gain some elevation through the hike.. A ranger told me this was the source of the lava tubes going through the valley. The tubes we climbed through were beautiful. There was a fungus that looked silver. We had a great time.

Completely unexpected easy and fun trail. We stumbled onto this trail by accident and it turned out to be a fairly easy and fun trail for everyone. Well marked sights and an excellent map/guide at the trailhead. Some Lava cave openings are hidden, so be sure to walk around a little bit to see them all. There's only one steep climb in the first half of the loop, but once you get to the top, it's all flat and gentle downhill from there. Wear durable shoes since you'll be walking on volcanic rocks.
