I came here despite reading the reviews. I was expecting higher prices and could appreciate the companies response that they price a little higher but give back to the community. I was not expecting to see worn jeans for $30, used dresses with missing waist ties for $79.99, and the staff to be so rude. I get that some places may price higher and give back to the community but I never could have imagined seeing higher than new in store items prices at the thrift when they get it all for free. They had an off brand fast fashion baja hoodie that had wear priced at $15 with a note on the tag saying how it was “funky”. It felt like they were trying to convince themselves that the pricing could be justified when really I couldn’t see it, but maybe it’s just me.
While I was browsing the clothes (trying to find something under $15) I was appalled to see another customers check out experience unfold. A man was purchasing a bicycle at the register when an additional employee walked up from behind him and very loudly asked if it was his bike he said yes and before he could say anything else the staff member cut him off and started nagging that he couldn’t have the bike inside and how customers must leave bikes outside why would he bring it in. He looked dumbfounded and stated he was purchasing it from the store which is why it was inside - because it was their merchandise that he was paying for. The cashier never once made a peep. After I watched that unfold I made my way through the rest of the store.
I will say the store is massive with tons of product, so you’re bound to find something it just might not be in your thrift shopping price range.
Housewares were more appropriately priced in my opinion. I found a couple goodies and when it was my turn to check out I had asked the cashier if they had any discounts or specials because I know a lot of stores do certain days are certain discounts or certain tag colors are whatever. Immediately the cashier became defensive and told me they couldn’t tell me I’d have to ask. So I asked if they have a student or military discount or do a tag color sale. They then told me they couldn’t offer that, that I have to request it. I was so confused because they said I had to ask but wouldn’t tell me when I asked but told me I have to request it. They kept telling me I have to tell them what discount I want but I kept saying I have never visited their store before and don’t know what they offer. Eventually they just told me when I began getting irritated. It just seemed like a giant hassle and confusing why they would have deals or discounts if they don’t want to offer or honor them.
Honestly, I won’t be back to this store but will continue visiting other St Vinnies in other towns when traveling as I’ve never had an experience like this at a St Vinnies before so it must’ve just been this location.
