As a behavioral economist, I am very familiar with the “planning fallacy:” building a house will cost you twice your budget and take you twice the time you envisioned. Designing and building a house with Steve proved the planning fallacy wrong! You could literally describe to him in plain English what you and your family need in term of function and like in terms of aesthetics, close your eyes, venture to Italy for 18 months to drink fine wine (while checking email once a month to provide feedback), and come back to find the house of your dreams ready for you - within budget and on time.
