The first experience I had here was excellent! I'm not sure how a varied so much from the first massage to the second one. The first time one of my friends had recommended this location and we went together to get a massage. They put us back toward the left hand side in a semi private area. The massage was really nice and relaxing and I really felt I got my money's worth and had a good therapist so I asked her name as I was leaving, they told me it was Lilly.
Fast forward about a month and my husband lost his grandfather and had been extremely stressed from work/life etc so I wanted to take him to get a nice massage. I made an appointment for a 90-minute massage and I asked for Lilly for myself and he had Kari as his therapist. My experience this time was the exact opposite of my first massage. I felt like I was partially being assaulted in between her naps. Yes folks it's true I got the sleeper (one of the therapists here is known to fall asleep while giving massages) and she was my therapist. When I left I had justified it thinking maybe she just didn't get a good night of sleep the night before and had personal stuff going on or something (although that doesn't justify the roughness and almost rug burn like sensation I felt while she was massaging), but when I checked another website and read the reviews I was shocked to see that I was not the only one that had this happen to them. I have a gift certificate still so I will go back, but this time I'm going to get a different therapist. Sorry Lilly but you need to stay awake if you're going to massage me and when you are massaging I don't want to feel beat up.
This 1 star is for the greedy lady who works up front.
My husband & I have been going to Sunny Foot Spa since we moved to Irvine about 1.5 yrs ago. Usually averaging 2 times a month (sometimes more) I would come alone or we would come together for our 90 min massages. I would objectively say that we have been valuable patrons. And we always tip of course (this is important to know if you continue reading)
The massage techs are usually good, the gentleman who works up front & on phone provided wonderful customer service consistently. He’s great at asking if you prefer male/female/strong/where not to massage/where you’d like more pressure etc. The atmosphere is relaxing and clean. They are very organized. The language barrier can be difficult but that’s ok. Everyone is usually very kind. All of the masseuses are very hardworking & provided a nice experience.
That being said, the last time my husband and I went about 2-3 weeks ago, we had thee rudest experience I have ever encountered as a customer anywhere. My husband went to the desk to pay. He verbally stated his tip amount out loud for her to add & tipped a little over 20% as usual for each masseuse on a 90min. The lady at the desk then said, “Oh…. that’s low….” This is also in front of other customers in the waiting room loll She then proceeded TO TELL HIM TO TIP MORE. $5 more to be exact. I walked over & confronted her saying, “I’m sorry did you just tell him to tip more?” To which she replied, “Yes a couple dollars more makes them happy, they’ll want to do a better job next time.” ….. I’m sorry, what? The only thing I could get out in that moment as I sipped my water in shock was, “WOW that is balllsssyy.” My man being the sweetest, actually did give the extra tip too.
I myself also work in a tip based industry. I could just NEVER imagine saying something like this to a customer. Let alone a customer who is giving 20%!? Well honey, I hope that $5 squeeze was worth losing the hundreds we averaged spending monthly there. We were both outraged & honestly flabbergasted in the car after. We couldn’t believe that just happened. We’ll never be back. There are plenty of other good reflexology and massage establishments in the area who will be appreciative of our business.
