I went into their SUR LA TABLE store in Wash DC a day before Easter to purchase an extra serving plate and a serving spoon and fork. My teen age daughters were coming home for dinner. I purchased the items and when I got home I noticed a tag on the spoon and fork that read: "WARNING: THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS A CHEMICAL KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE BIRTH DEFECTS OR OTHER REPRODUCTIVE HARM." I was horrified to think that my college aged kids were coming over from UMD to dinner. I called the store and asked them, "WHY DO YOU CARRY A PRODUCT LIKE THIS"? They didn't have an answer (NO KIDDING) and blamed corporate. I spoke to a supervisor at their national customer service Dept and they blamed the State of California. They said I could bring it back. WOW!! Thats nice of them. HOW MANY OF THEIR OTHER PRODUCTS THAT THEY CARRY HAVE DANGEROUS CHEMICALS IN THEM? I have been a customer of theirs for many years in two different states. I WILL NEVER TRUST THEM AGAIN.

I went to a cooking class at Sur La Table for Mother's Day with my husband and daughters. The ingredients for the Paella we were cooking was very skimpy and very cheap. Rice and Chicken, one pepper., one garlic clove..no clams, shrimp or any fish of any kind. We were a group of five and we had the same amount to eat/cook as a group of two. This class was $80 a piece. There store certainly made money on us. The five of us were given one of everything in tiny amounts to cut/cook so there wasn't much for the five of us to do. Small salad and flan was included-but we didn't make the salad or cook the flan. Went home starving and extremely disappointed. Would not recommend.

Trying to fulfill a bridal registry gift and Sur La Table Palo Alto is unable to let me pay for it over the phone to pickup - and wrap myself - on my way to a bridal shower. I wanted to get it off the bride's registry to avoid duplication and then she gets the sale price. They don't do curbside any longer. I am not asking for curbside, I am asking to purchase something to get it off the registry. I am amazed that someone would turn away a couple-hundred-dollar sale because of the lack of desire to provide customer service.
