Dr. Raman refused to see my newborn when he was discharged from the NICU because he had not yet received his first round of vaccinations. I expressed that I planned on vaccinating him, I just wanted to give his body time to recover from his birth trauma before introducing him to vaccine antibodies (he would only be surrounded by vaccinated immediate family members in the mean time). She simply refuses to accept patients who won’t adhere to a one size fits all vaccine schedule. The care coordinator who communicated for her was extremely rude and insensitive to the fact that my son and I had been through a traumatic experience and he needed to see a pediatrician within 24 hours of being discharged. I was told that the entire Sutter system would not treat him if he did not receive vaccines according to their schedule. This just added to the stress and trauma we had already experienced. I was told I had no right to choose what was right for my child, and if I did then he wouldn’t receive medical care.
