Swarthy's is an amazing place with excellent service. I found it in south pasadena just as I was moving out of the area (so disappointing) but I still come back to it when I can for a beard trim and haircut. The place is decked out like a bachelors heaven from the 40's. It's even got a pool table and foosball table to entertain you while you wait.
The owner, Carlos, is a great guy with a lot of skill. He's super friendly and I even held my pre-wedding "getting ready" the morning of my wedding. Me and my guys got straight razor shaves, shot some pool and had a few beers before I headed off to the church looking sharp and feeling relaxed.
I believe his cuts are pretty much by appointment now (which can easily be booked through his website) but do yourself a favor and set one up.
