A very demanding and growth-enhancing program. The instructors teach quite advanced choreography (sometimes the original Broadway choreography of Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp, Bob Fosse, and other quintessential Broadway choreographers) and the control and precision they require is what moves one's dance training from a light, extra-curricular program to a higher-level Dance training program. The program teaches a range of dance styles, the historical periods and contexts in which the shows and dances were created, introduces performers to a range of musical and instrumentation styles, and does not require one to go 'en pointe' which allows adolescent dancers' skeletons to develop normally. This program is not for the faint-of-heart, nor those with easily-abraded egos. If you are looking for a program that will develop your performance skills and develop your talents to be the best triple-threat performer you can be-- you will be challenged, and also nurtured by a supportive peer group which celebrates the athleticism and grace which can be developed in a range of body types. Best fit for those who are self-appraising, want to put in the time, repetition, and effort to improve by increments, and genuinely appreciate candid critique. Our family has participated in the program for 4 years now.

My daughter started to dance at this studio at the beginning of the school year. The teachers here have been very encouraging and they take their art very seriously. I appreciate their approach and enthusiasm.

The Big Open Dance Studio is such a positive environment for learning dance in a serious yet low pressure environment. I would highly recommend it! The director is easy to communicate with and the instruction is top notch.
