I would describe this place as serving 2 star food in a 5 star location.
The clam chowder was pretty good, creamy, thick with a very slight hint of pepper though I think it could have benefitted with a bit more pepper.
The Peppercorn New York Strip was cooked between medium and medium rare which is good to me. The texture of the steak was odd. It was very soft instead of having the typical chew of a strip. The flavour was really mild. The mashed potatoes it was served with had cold spots (refrigerator cold) and I could stick a fork in them and move them around the plate as a single unit. The gravy had a real sweet component, which was off-putting. The asparagus was slightly overcooked but was nicely seasoned and still quite good. The shrimp were nicely cooked.
Their fried chicken was bad. It had no flavor at all. The cornbread under it was decent. It was served with similar mashed potatoes to the strip steak though they were warmer. I suspect they may come pre-prepared and heated in the restaurant.
What a fabulous restaurant! Amazing food and terrific service, on top of a great view of the lake. A short walk down the dock to the floating restaurant with almost 360° views of the lake. When we entered we could feel a small amount of rocking; however, once seated it wasn’t noticeable at all. Take a moment to read about this unique building on their website. We started with the fried calamari with two dipping sauces, which was delicious. My husband had the salad bar with his entree, which was fresh and had numerous topping options. I chose the house-made clam chowder, which was filled with potatoes and clam meat. This was served with fresh baked bread. My husband had the Biergarten Filet with sautéed mushrooms and the loaded Idaho baked potato. His filet was tender and mouthwatering. I had the Fried Chicken and it was spectacular. The chicken was moist, tender, and perfectly fried, sitting on a bed of mashed potatoes, corn, and gravy. And top it off, was this amazing maple honey chipotle sauce—out of this world! Portions were plentiful, so we took home leftovers. Even though we were stuffed, we shared a small Mile High Mud Pie. The chocolate and caramel with the espresso ice cream was yummy! We look forward to coming back here in the future!
