They serve solid sandwiches here! I ordered the tuna salad sandwich on squaw bread with the clam chowder soup. This was the first time I had seen squaw bread on a menu so I had to try it. The gentleman behind the counter recommended it for people who like whole wheat bread, and like it I did!
Unfortunately, I didn't see any warnings that the clam chowder soup had bacon, and I didn't realize this until I had already eaten some of it. Regardless, the soup was thick and flavorful although a bit lighter on clam density than I would have liked.
They had a couple of tables inside and outside on the patio. I was bummed to see that they used styrofoam for the soup container and cups and would prefer to use compostable products whenever possible.
This little sandwich shop is a delightful surprise in Riverside. My sister and I stopped there for dinner during the Festival of Lights. We had the French Dip special which came with soup and au jus. We were there for my birthday, so the owner gave us two chocolate chip cookies for free!
This shop has been in business for 22 years. The owners, Kerry and Wreatha are the most generous-hearted proprietors you could ever meet. Kerry let us sample both the chili and clam chowder to make our decision on which soups we wanted, and both were delicious. It was a tough decision, but I got the clam chowder and my sister got the chili. My sister had her dog with us, and Kerry had someone bring out a bowl of water for her dog as well as gave her pup a small plate of roast beef.
We enjoyed chatting with Kerry about his business. The food was wonderful. The bread was super soft and the roast beef was plentiful. The chocolate chip cookies were delicious too!
I highly recommend the Upper Crust Sandwich Shop for both the great food and over-the-top welcoming service.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of dining here, and I was absolutely blown away by the staff’s thoughtfulness and kind attitudes. But the sandwich stole the show—it was nothing short of extraordinary. I genuinely believe it was the best sandwich I’ve ever had. It perfectly embodied everything a sandwich should be. I was so impressed, I couldn’t resist raving about it to my husband, his colleagues, and our extended family. This place is a must-visit and should be at the top of everyone’s travel list! Eager to see if the magic was consistent, I returned today and tried something different. Once again, I was not disappointed. The symphony of flavors is a culinary experience I hope everyone has the chance to savor in their lifetime. To the owner and their incredible team: thank you for creating such an unforgettable experience. I hope I can visit again soon.
