Joint base Lewis McChord travel camp on American Lake was a fantastic place to stay. The park itself was spacious the sites were spaced nicely. No problem parking a fifth wheel anywhere.
The civilian staff took care of us just fine plenty of people to take care of you. Little quicker on the email would be nice but other than that great place.
Remember the rear gate to Camp Murray, is open if traffic sucks on I five.

As far as campgrounds go this is really not bad. The sites are clean and well placed. It's $12 a night for a campsite and sadly there aren't that many tent sites and the restrooms and showers are not open all night. There is a fishing dock right next to the camp grounds which is nice. One thing to be aware of though is that hornets are BAD during the summer. There is a store at the site that offers some basic camping supplies, fishing gear, scuba gear and various other things. This is not a store that I would use to get stuff you need though you would be better off bringing your stuff with you. Over all it's a nice place to take the family for a weekend.

Nice campground, we’re in site 208 for 3 nights and although it looks small, we have some space from other sites so it’s a great location. $1 for laundry, lots of recreational rentals, cabins on lake, good place for families. Lucky to get on short notice, thank you!
