Here’s a shoutout for Shelby, an aesthetician at ULTA in West Seattle. I’m seeking employment after a 4 year hiatus so I wanted to update my makeup and application techniques. I scheduled a 30 minute lesson for $30 and enjoyed it so much that I immediately requested another session.
Shelby asked what kind of look I wanted and which facial feature I wanted to work on. She found makeup in colors that flattered me. She applied makeup to half my face, explaining as she went. Then I applied makeup to the other half. She praised my successes and tactfully explained my errors and how to fix them.
Shelby never criticized my drugstore makeup, my lack of skincare routine, or my plan to spend only 10 minutes applying makeup. She simply found products that would do what I wanted. She also explained techniques I might try, like applying foundation with a brush – it’s quick, my skin looks fantastic, and I can’t even feel the makeup!
When my planned purchases started to exceed my budget, Shelby found less expensive options and explained the tradeoffs. She even found a coupon to help offset the cost. I highly recommend her. For about the same price as a manicure, you can learn new makeup techniques from an expert.
