I recently secured an auto loan from the broadway branch. The manager Brian went out of his way to make this happen- I don't know if I've ever experienced such excellent service from a bank anywhere.

I cant say enough good things about Umpqua bank. Beyond the friendliness and support of local community retailers and organizations, they also just offer great checking and savings accounts. ATM refunds way before the bigger banks were doing that was my favorite. I also accidentally forgot my debit card in the ATM machine the night before an early morning flight home. I called them the next day, and free of charge they mailed me my debit card with a hand-written note that said they hope the weather is great back home and enjoy the time with family! So sweet :) I also moved to capitol hill and on one of my first trips had to wait in line for about 15 minutes. The lady at the desk felt so badly that they mailed me a $25 gift card to starbucks a week later! Said sorry i had to wait! I couldnt believe it. There is truly no better example of a community bank then one that doesnt have tons of hidden fees, ensures you arent paying ATM fees, offers options for interest in savings accounts, and supports and advertises for local businesses in whatever neighborhood that branch is located. Love Umpqua, never leaving!

Umpqua in general has an innovative Community involved approach but I have to say the staff at this particular branch is exceptional. It's a very challenging thing indeed to posture yourself as a community center with complimentary coffee, space for reading and lounging and an open invitation to surf the web and more in an urban environment with a very high preponderance of "high acuity" folks. (Transient, mental health challenges, addiction Etc). They handle it remarkably well. The exec's who come up with the model might actually work their plan in an urban environment to learn.
