I hate to complain but I feel that there are issues that cannot be ignored
On 6/14 my mother had a scheduled cardiac procedure for a 12 start time and a 1030 arrival time to your facility. Everything was acceptable until 12 came and went, and 1300 came and went. At this point, a cath lab supervisor( she was outstanding) informed us that my mother was being delayed due to over-scheduling, a case that required anesthesia, and providers not starting on time. Dr. H.A has an issue with on-time starts and that screws all cases that follow. That being said needs to be addressed by the administration. In addition, the poor schedule structure needs to be investigated, it is NOT appropriate to have a 77-year-old lady NPO for almost 24 hours. She finally was taken to the cath lab suite at about 1600. This was the quickest heart cath I have ever seen in my life. By the time she can eat it will be 24 hours NPO. While it is recognized that delays occur in a health care facility the lack of concern troubles me. I beg you as a fellow healthcare provider to take ownership and perform a root cause analysis and make this better for future patients. Furthermore Dr. H.A only does enough heart caths to keep his credentials and competencies. This misrepresents himself and doesn’t look good for your facility. If I had known this prior to today, she never would have had this procedure today. My mother and for that matter no patient should only be a number to maintain credentials or competencies. Proficiency is a huge issue and with that being said all patients should have true informed consent and be informed he doesn’t do a lot of caths. Speaking of informed consent my mother never had an informed consent in the pre-procedure room which I do believe is in a very grey area. After the procedure I spoke with my mother if the doctor had answered her questions prior to the procedure and she stated she never saw the doctor prior to the procedure, so HOW WAS INFORMED CONSENT PERFORMED? On the positive side, Quentin and the young lady who used ultrasound to start her IV were Rockstar and should be given public accolades. You do have what appears to be great staff but either this is a lack of leadership issue or a greed issue either of which are completely not in the best interests of the patients.
