Keep in mind this review reflects all of ymcapkc, not just this location.
It is no longer affordable to gym here. I even try referring friends but they always end up choosing the competitors. There is no discount or real benefits with referring people here. As much I want to renew a membership here, its clear they're not competitive enough to make the right changes in price, operating hours and membership benefits. Guest pass is $20 a day for adults. That's ridiculous.
They have closed their gym hours early since the pandemic while all their competitors are running under normal operating hours. They claim its due to being short staffed but 24 hour fitness has far less employees/members, cheaper memberships and some with no joining fee. Most of the employees at the Y are making minimum wage too so it really doesn't make sense why everything is more expensive here and still rising.
Lastly, their basketball league has increased in price significantly (per 24/8 league merger).
I was a member but canceled not because of price or customer service ….but because of other people using the facility. I’m not sure if the basketball players using the gym are members or not …..since I’m not familiar with the arrangements the league has with the gym. However, a couple players went OUT OF THEIR WAY to let me know I wasn’t welcome (to say it politely). I don’t know why they targeted me when I mind my own business and quietly use the equipment ….but it was a frustrating and a disappointing encounter because I have nothing to do with COVID, parking or any other issue they want to blame me with.
I’ve had nothing but positive encounters with the staff and don’t hold the organization or the employees responsible whatsoever but… this is an experience that affected my use of the facility and worth sharing in case others experienced something similar.
