Steep grade, our diesel engine got too hot so had to pull over for a bit. No hookups. Beautiful running stream. Very clean campground.

Really nice set of campsites. Stayed at site 7, which was a good site, but lacking in shade. Thankfully we knew ahead of time and had an easy up as the sun in the afternoon was hot. The Big Pine Creek was just off the campground and the white noise of the rushing water made for peaceful sleeping. Shame the creek was engorged from snow runoff which cut down on fishing (and the forest service had delayed stocking for two weeks per the camp host) which was a bit of a let down. Of course they stocked it just after we packed up to leave on July 5th. The star gazing at night was incredible and we saw deer in the nearby woods along the trails.

We had a great camping experience at Sage Flat Campground, up in Pine Creek Canyon, Big Pine, California. This is a forestry run campground, so you get a "dry" campsite, with pit toilets, a fire ring, and water spigots are spread around. This campground appears well cared for and we complimented the camphost on the cleanliness. David Mac, the camphost, came and had a fun trivia game for the 3 of us. We got little goodie bags for answering correctly! WHAT?? Never been to a forestry campground where the camphost was so engaged and cared so much for everyone's experience. The sites were large enough that we didn't feel on top of our neighbors. Great little campout!
