I made an appointment with Jordan, filled out the paperwork in advance. I got to my initial appointment on time and we go to his office. He says there's just a couple things he has to cover before we get started and covers the cancellation fee if I cancel before 24 hours I will be billed for the entire $120 fee. Then he proceeds to explain the way they bill.
His boss hadn't verified my insurance yet that I was covered or how much the visits would cost but they had my credit card on file. They require that when you fill out the initial paperwork but don't tell you why they require the credit card. At the time I didn't think it was a big deal because if we do virtual appointments I can save that card and use it for copays automatically was my thinking. So the way they bill is, his boss will call after my visit and verify the insurance and when he gets that information then they will charge my card when he bills, for however much. But they would just automatically charge my card there would be no conversation with me as to how much, and it would happen whenever his boss got around to it.
There's something called the surprise bill act so I'm not sure how this is allowed. I told him the billing wouldn't work for me and I left without being seen. I thought about asking if they could call me before but if this is their practice it's going to be too easy for them to forget to call me and charge my card and then I'm going to have other issues and possibly build a big balance.
Unless you can afford to have your credit card charged for unknown amounts at random times I might stay away from this practice.
